| How to find a therapist |
Perhaps you have a friend who lives in another state, and they’d like to find the same method of treatment you’ve had from me at HandSpring Bodywork. There aren’t many people who use these techniques, but here are some tips for your friend. 1. Practitioners qualified to use Strain Counterstrain and/or Muscle Energy Technique may be physical therapists (PT), physical therapy assistants (PTA), chiropractors (DC), occupational therapists (OT), massage therapists, or osteopaths (DO). One can enquire before making an appointment whether these techniques are used. 2. Use an online search. http://www.jiscs.com offers “Search for Practitioners” where you can search for someone in your area who has taken Counterstrain courses from the Jones Institute. (Dr. Lawrence Jones, DO, was the inventor of Strain/Counterstrain.) 3. Another online search. Go to http://www.iahp.com and ‘search practitioners.’ The International Association of Healthcare Practitioners lists anyone who has taken courses run through the Upledger Institute, which encompasses a huge range of techniques in the bodywork field. You may not find the same things I do, but chances are excellent that someone who’s taken lots of courses has experience and passion for their work, and will be able to help in their own way. |
